What To Do With Coasters

Back in the old days before DVD, we did lots of experiments and such putting movies onto CD discs and, as a result, ended up with a lot of scrap discs, aka coasters.  At one point I asked the gang in my Usenet group what should be done with them and put the following on the site.

Let's face it, coasters are a way of life.  As such, it's either throw them away and pollute the environment for the next 20,000 years until they disintegrate, or actually do something with them.  Following are the best ideas gleaned from the stalwart folk on Usenet:
    • Separators for hamburger patties

    •
    • Driveway markers in the country

    •
    • Christmas ornaments for outdoor trees

    •
    • House ornaments strung under the eaves

    •
    • Mobiles hung in your child's bedroom

    •
    • Mini-Frisbee competitions, like throwing them through a hoop

    •
    • Hang them by string in the veggie garden to keep birds away

    •
    • Hang them off the side of a fishing boat.  The glare attracts small fish, which, in turn, attract larger fish.

    •
    • Heat them in the oven and mold them into candy dishes or ashtrays

    •
    • Use them as mirrors to signal planes when you're lost in the wilderness

    •
And the #1 creative idea for coasters:

    • Glue cork to them and actually use them as coasters!
